"Healing Through Art"| Eastalgia x Art is for Ordinary People
Art Directed, designed, programmed, and produced an immersive evening of art-making, live music, and community healing through my creative initiative, Art is for Ordinary People, in collaboration with Eastalgia, a Middle Eastern music collective.
In the days following the escalation of conflict between Israel and Iran in 2025, many members of the Iranian diaspora found themselves experiencing grief, uncertainty, anger, and concern for loved ones back home. In response, I created an experience centered on connection, reflection, and collective healing through art.
The event transformed the venue into a contemporary interpretation of an Iranian home, using lighting, spatial design, cultural objects, and artwork by Iranian artists to evoke a sense of familiarity, comfort, and belonging. Guests were invited to participate in a guided collage-making workshop, using art as a tool for emotional expression while listening to live musical performances.
The evening concluded with a community sharing session where participants displayed their artwork throughout the space and reflected on their experiences, creating a powerful moment of collective storytelling and support.
This project exemplifies my passion for designing experiences that go beyond aesthetics, using spatial storytelling, cultural identity, and creative participation to foster meaningful human connection during moments when community is needed most.
